Ballet Theatre of Indianapolis is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit arts organization incorporated in the state of Indiana.  Founded in July ‘07, its purpose is to provide  professional dance performances for the Greater Indianapolis public.

 

Mission statement

BTI strives to enrich the cultural life of the community by providing top quality dance performances that will increase the awareness and appreciation of ballet as an art form.  We will achieve this goal by:

 

· making the art of ballet accessible and meaningful to the general public

 

· developing our audience and educating them about various dance forms while dedicating our efforts to preserve the legacy of classical ballet

 

· bridging connections with other dance organizations within the community

 

·  maintaining a strong financial foundation that will enable us to provide top quality performances

The Artistic Directors

Oybek Tashpulatov, Co-Artistic Director, is from Tashkent, Uzbekistan.  Prior to  graduation from the National Ballet School of Uzbekistan, he participated in the Gala opening of the First Good Will Games in Moscow.  For the next ten years, he performed as a principal dancer with the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tashkent.  In 1997, for his outstanding achievements in the field of dance, he was awarded the national title of “Honored Artist of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”   In the US, Mr. Tashpulatov was first a principal dancer and ballet master for the International Ballet at Carnegie Hall, while also appearing as a guest performer with the Ballet Theatre of Boston, and The Dance at Holy Trinity in New York City.  He later moved to Indianapolis, where he received critical acclaim for his performance of Herr Drosselmeyer in Ballet Internationale’s production of The Nutcracker.  The Indianapolis Star wrote that, “With him, this role started the evening with a vitality, spirit, and forward movement.”  Mr. Tashpulatov’s illustrious career has included tours to Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, China, and Germany.

       About Us

Oleg Gorboulev, Co-Artistic Director, received his ballet training from the National Ballet School of Uzbekistan.  Upon graduation, he was offered a job with Moscow Classical Ballet in Russia, where he toured with the company throughout Europe, the USA, and Asia.  Curious to perform ballets of Western choreographers, Oleg came to the USA in 1995, to dance with Indianapolis Ballet Theatre.  A few years later, he was invited to join Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB) in Seattle, WA, where he reached soloist rank.  While dancing with PNB, Mr. Gorboulev was featured in works of American choreographers such as George Balanchine, Kent Stowell, Lynn Taylor-Corbett, Val Caniparoli, Eugene Loring, Glen Tetley, Paul Taylor, Nicolo Fonte, as well as in works by European choreographers such as Rudi van Dantzig, Hans van Manen, and Ronald Hynd..  He was one of the dancers chosen to participate in the Hayden Seattle Project of the George Balanchine Foundation in 2000.  Oleg  most recently danced as a founding member of Los Angeles Ballet, Los Angeles, CA and Seattle Dance Project, Seattle, WA, where his acquaintance with American choreography continued.   In the spring of 2007, he received an Associate of Business degree from North Seattle Community College.
